Attracting your dream clients isn’t as hard as you think – but that’s the thing, you really do need to think about it and put the time and effort into your brand, because no-one else will. Harsh and brutal page opener I know (sorry about that!) You can easily attract your ideal clients with a brand identity.
First of all, the work that you do, the images that you choose and the voice of your brand will attract your clients. This means that within the early stages of setting up your creative business you need to really get to grips with who your ideal client is.
Do your research – which can become quite tricky if they aren’t like you. I suggest that you hang out where they hang out, search the hashtags and pins and most importantly take notes so as not to forget. This is the hardest part of owning your brand is finding out who your ideal client is. Once you have this in the bag you can then begin to think about your full visual identity.
GET YOUR COLOURS RIGHT
Colour psychology is a huge and vital part of your visual identity. I work with creative entrepreneurs and so the softer earthy tones work for me. However, if you want your brand to be portrayed as strong, serious and luxurious then you should be looking to use strong colours such as black, white and metallics (think high end fashion and retail: Chanel, Gucci, Prada).
CHOOSE THE FONTS AND TEXTURES
Choosing the correct fonts, textures and design elements is never an easy task for your brand – because after all, it needs to be alluring to your ideal client. Go back to when you were stalking your ideal client – what were they most drawn to? A scripted modern calligraphy font for the ever-romantic brand or was it the clean and fresh cut font? For me, I wanted to use a delicate script font within my brand but I knew that it wasn’t strong enough for the main logo design and therefore, I use it sporadically as a sub-heading font.
Brand textures can often fall into place once you’ve realised your fonts and your colours – a luxurious brand may want to incorporate the metallics with a gold textured pattern (and remember your patterns and textures can be used anywhere from brand packaging through to stationery and styling props).
ALWAYS REMEMBER…
The work that you produce and publish will always attract the type of client you create. So always, at the back of your mind when you are about to post to social media or when you’re about to send a branded note – is this the type of client that I want to be attracting? If your answer is no, then you have always got time to re-think. Evolve with your brand if you have to. . . if you have it spot on in the first instance then you will continue to grow and attract your ideal clients (but not everyone will get it right the first time, and that’s okay too!)
