I think that the number one question that I am asked frequently is whether self-publishing can be profitable
The answer is: it’s as profitable as you make it.
There is no approach that will make you an overnight millionaire – J.K.Rowling took seven years to get Harry Potter published (and that was with an agent). I know that this isn’t down the self-publishing route but I wanted to make it clear that there is no overnight success and if that is what you’re hoping for then I would recommend you re-think your options (brutal, sorry!)
1: Treat it like a business
You wouldn’t expect sales to come freely flowing to your door of your business without putting in the hard work in and the same method goes for your self-published books. You must shout about it, you must build your audience and you mustn’t become complacent. As soon as you become complacent, that is when the sales begin to drop.
2: Shout about it
To self-publish your book is a huge success, a bucket list number for so many of you. So cheer yourself on, make everyone know how proud you are … that you BELIEVE in what you have just published. If you don’t believe in it, then neither will your audience. These easiest way to shout about something is when it is about something you feel so strongly and passionate about (your book or planner)
3: Don’t give up at the first hurdle
Okay, so you’ve shouted from the rooftops, you’ve created hype and you’ve a huge email waitlist. Then all you hear are crickets. Don’t give up. Keep fighting. There could be many reasons as to why you’ve not received a good intake upon publishing (it could be your book keywords, it’s clashed with another important date or you’ve not actively ‘sold’ like you thought that you had!)
Keep going… and stay strong with it.
Any questions, please do shout, I LOVE to discuss how I can help you with YOUR self-publishing
Love,
Sophie xo
