I'm Sophie, aspirer, designer, boy mum, wife and entrepreneur. I'm passionate, motivated and most importantly I'm here to help you grow your creative business with visuals that uplevel & sell.
Have you ever wondered what file formats are needed for your logo or you’ve DIY’ed your own logo and you’re wondering why a particular file isn’t working correctly? Within this blog I tell you the formats that you need in order to bring your coaching or service based business to life!
So first up, if you’re DIY’ing your logo, please ensure that you’ve saved it somewhere other than Canva because the quality that you receive when you save files are fine for social media but not for alternative uses. I’d recommend using an Adobe programme to design within to get maximum results.
You will need different file formats for different media that you are creating with your logo
Jpeg: These have a solid white background and are probably the file type that you are most frequented with. You cannot overlay these onto coloured backgrounds. It is a compressed file and more often than not it is used for sending photos. I’ll be honest, I rarely use Jpegs because I’d use a Png. instead.
You can use Jpegs for web-related or within your social media though (advised best with a white background because no-one wants to see a random white box around your branding!)
Png: A Png. file has a transparent background and is the most versatile of your files. It is a larger file size but you cannot make them any bigger than what they already are and if you do, then you potentially lose the quality (become grainy and pixelated).
Use your Png. files for web-related and social media graphics.
Eps: Eps files are the momma’s of the files and can be edited and re-sized. You can blow these files up and they won’t lose their quality.
You can edit these in illustrator and indesign. If you have a product that you’d like to have your branding placed upon, then this file is the one that you’ll use. You will also need it for specialist printing such as embossing and metallic finishes.
Still stuck on how to create these files?
You would be best working with a designer that will create these for you… when you don’t have to think about something that isn’t your zone of genius then you can focus your time and energy on other aspects of your business.
